A litlle sick girl.........

When we went to Boise for Christmas we all got colds. :( Rayna's was the worst. After about 4 days of her cold she developed a fever. This was on a Sunday night. It was 104.5! She continued to have a fever all week. We kept her on a strict Tylenol regimen to keep it at bay. As the week progressed Rayna got less active and ate less. She would sit down and fall asleep in minuets. On Thursday we thought that her fever finally broke. She played for about an hour straight and ate dinner. This was her first meal since Tuesday! Then about a couple hours later her fever was back. It was 104. :( We decided that we would try and get her in to see her pediatrician the next day.
Friday morning I called her doctor and luckily she had a 2:00 appointment available. We went to her doctors. Jeff went to hangout with his brother and grandma watched Ama. We were 7 minutes late to her appointment. They weren't going to let us see our doctor because we were late. The office was empty! They had just let the people after us go in our spot. I explained that we drove an hour to get there just for this appointment and that Rayna needed to see her doctor. Thankfully Rayna's doctor saw us at the front desk and instantly came over and asked what the problem was. The receptionist said we were late. She said that Rayna was really sick and she could tell by just looking at her. I was holding Rayna and she was practically asleep. Her doctor said that she needed to see her right away. They called us back. The nurse took Rayna's vitals. She didn't have a fever! She did an oxygen test and her levels were 85. They tested again on another machine and it read 85 again. Your levels are supposed to be 100. So they did a breathing treatment. This also would help open her lungs so they could listen better. During her breathing treatment Rayna's oxygen levels worsened. They did not improve. She was wearing this oxygen mask. At one point she fell asleep and her levels dropped to 81! The doctor came in and listened to Rayna's lungs. There was  a little crackle which means pneumonia. She then looked at me and said I am not so worried that I need to call an ambulance but you need to take her to the E.R. right now. Go straight there. This was by far one of the scariest moments of my life.
We got in the car and I drove to Jeff's brothers apartment. I couldn't get ahold of him. I finally did. IT was very stressful. I picked up Jeff and we went straight to downtown St. Luke's. We got Rayna checked in the E.R. around 3. They did another breathing treatment and started an IV. She was dehydrated from not eating all week. Her oxygen levels improved during her treatment 89. They put her on oxygen. She got to hangout in the E.R. and watch movies. IT was the most expensive movie night ever! Then around 7 they admitted her into the hospital.
I a so thankful that grandma could watch Ama for us. I knew that she was in good hands. Nana came up to the hospital and brought some things from Emmett. I had to leave around 10. IT was the hardest thing I had to ever do. Leaving your child at the hospital is extremely hard. I am thankful that I only had to do it one night! My heart goes out to you parents who have to do it longer! Rayna was not happy that I had to leave. Ama needed me. I am so thankful that Jeff was with her.
The next morning I came up for an hour. Then I had to leave and go feed Ama. Rayna stayed in the hospital until 7. She was able to leave way early than expected. She got to leave because she was breathing on her own and her oxygen levels stayed up!!!! Yay!
This experience did change Rayna and I's relationship. It was like she blamed me for taking her to the hospital and leaving her. It felt like she was mad because I chose Ama over her. I think this because she didn't want anything to do with me for a week. She would yell no if I would touch her. It broke my heart.I had to remember that she was 2 and that she would grow out of it. I prayed that it would be soon.
Rayna is doing so much better. We  will get to go back to Moscow in a few days!!!!!!! I am so thankful for modern medicine and a great doctor! I am thankful for the priesthood and the power of prayer. I am thankful for Jeff and the girls!
